Bayern bounce back in style with 5-0 win

Bayern Munich bounced back from their 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Barcelona, to thrash bottom team Bochum 5-0. It was always going to be a massive challenge for the winless visitors against the unbeaten home side. Bochum started the match brightly and had the first big opportunity but Kim Min-jae cleared off the line after Manuel Neuer was beaten. That was the wake up call Bayern needed as they turned up the heat and duly took the lead in the 16th minute through a Michael Olise free kick. Ten minutes later Jamal Musiala made it 2-0 and this was the score at the break. Harry Kane got his customary goal in the 57th minute before two more goals made the final score 5-0. This was just the second time in 16 away games that Bayern have kept a clean sheet. The victory was enough to see them go back to the top on goal difference from RB Leipzig.

Stuttering Leverkusen struggle again

Champions Bayer Leverkusen’s poor start to the season continued as they dropped points again when they were held to a 2-2 draw away to Werder Bremen. The match started well for visitors as they dominated possession and eventually took the lead in the 30th minute through their top scorer Victor Boniface. They held the lead up until the 74th minute when their hosts equalised. Three minutes later there was a horror show from Werder Bremen as they conceded an own goal. Leverkusen looked to have sealed the three points but Romano Schmid had other ideas as the midfielder equalised for Bremen in the 90th minute. The result leaves Xavi Alonso’s charges five points behind leaders Bayern Munich in third spot.

Leipzig’s fairytale start continues

RB Leipzig had a potentially tricky match against fourth placed Freiburg and so it proved as the visitors took an early lead in the 15th minute. The home side pushed for the equaliser but could find the back of the net in the first half. They had to wait until the 47th minute when Willi Orban made the breakthrough to level matters. The Red Bull team were now in their stride as they took the lead just 11 minutes later through defender Lutsharel Geertruida. The points were secured by their top scorer Lois Openda when he made it 3-1. The result took them to the summit of the table for at least 24 hours as Bayern were playing a day later.

St Pauli gain valuable point against Wolfsburg

St. Pauli gained a valuable point as they held Wolfsburg to a goalless draw. The point saw them climb to five points, which is three points above Holstein Kiel. They still remain in the relegation zone but they now occupy the relegation/promotion playoff spot. Bottom two teams Bochum and Holstein still remain winless as they slumped to defeats to Stuttgart and Bayern Munich. Bochum hired a new coach but he had little effect as they lost 5-0. Unless there is massive improvement, the bottom two look set to be heading for the drop come the end of the season.
